Konstantin M Lomykin (1924-93), People's Artist of the Ukraine. Lomykin graduated from the Odessa art school in 1951. One of the most prolific and popular artists of the Soviet period, Lomykin worked in oil, pastel and watercolor. His pastels are considered by many to be his finest achievements. He worked in many genres, including thematic social realism, but his best known and most popular works are paintings of dancers, nudes and still life paintings of flowers. Lomykin's works are notable for their intensity of color, sure brushwork and harmonious balance of form. His work is in the collection of most major Russian and Ukrainian museums, including the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow and the Ukrainian Museum of Fine Arts in Kiev.
