Claude Weisbuch was born in Thionville, France in 1927. At twenty he was admitted to the National School of Fine Arts in Nancy. He received his first personal exhibition in 1957 and for many years taught at the National School of Fine Arts in Saint Etienne. During his career he received the National Critics Prize (1961) and was decorated as Knight of the Legion of Honor (1987). In 2011 a retrospective of his work was held at the Orangerie in Versaille. He passed away at the age of 87 in 2014. Today his works are held in the collections of many museums including; MOMA (New York), National Museum of Modern Art (MNAM, Center Pompidou), The Art Gallery of South Australia (Adelaide), National Center of Contemporary Art (Paris), Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam), and many more.
