James G. Moore - The Eight

Sculptor James Moore’s commissioned monumental work The Eight was installed on the western end of Vail’s East Meadow Drive in early May 2009. The sculpture was commissioned by the Town of Vail’s Art in Public Places board and approved by a jury of Vail residents and business owners. The Eight is comprised of two cast bronze lamps affixed to fifteen foot tall welded steel posts. The multi sided lanterns are lit at night by energy efficient LED’s. Light emanates from perforations in the bronze panels of the lamps, creating a bright and artful welcome to Vail Village. Each of the panels has a unique design and patina that represents James’s impression of Vail’s winter and summer environments. These sculptures are James’s first important public art commission.
