After a nearly year- long sabbatical sculptor Bates Wilson delivered his newest monumental work the gallery.  Titled “Mara” the nearly nine foot tall sculpture of a rabbit was entirely hand fashioned from recycled aluminum by the artist without the help of studio assistants or fabricators.  Known for his metal sculptures of fish, surfboards, guns and other literal subjects re-interpreted in his own unique way, Bates Wilson again returns to a well-known subject depicted with a monumentality partly inspired by Botero but completely in his own artistic voice.  Wilson envisions Mara as the beginning of a series of larger scale works along similar themes.
